Religion: Reality or Misunderstanding?

*Author's Note*
This piece explains the possibility of how religion itself may have started. I have no intention of offending anyone in any way. I simply want to state a clear, realistic, and possible alternate history. You may see religion a different way after reading this, but I still want you to believe the same way you did before you read this. Enjoy!

Religion, if you think about, could possibly be a placebo. A placebo is the way you see things with a certain thought in mind. I have no intention whatsoever to offend anybody. I’m not anti-religion. In ancient times, when people saw an unusual, maybe natural, phenomenon, they might’ve thought that there was a being above and that He caused these strange events. Upon experiencing these happenings, with the thought of a god mingled around in their head, they may have thought that He did these and they then wrote these things down in that religions form of a Bible. Ever since those events were recorded, people worshipped these gods and believed that they existed.

When somebody prays for something and it comes true, they believe that their god did it and possibly acquire more faith in Him. When somebody prays and it doesn’t come true, then they may lose a little faith in Him. There is a fine line between coincidence and fate. This occurrence could be either.

The greatest fear of anyone is to be alone. Maybe the thought that there was someone above watching over them comforted them. People who have been isolated look to their god for guidance and in this process, they discover the thought or idea themselves. Once the brain believes that it’s not alone on something, it can work more efficiently. For instance, if you are presenting something, you’re scared because you think that your every action is being watched and recorded. If you have someone presenting with you, the brain thinks that their every action is being recorded, too.

A question that still passes through the minds of many, even today: Did God create man, or did man create God? The simple presence of a known thing can comfort someone. In ancient times, man might have created a god to be able to talk to someone, when there was no one. If you were abandoned on a desert island as a child with basic education, and you didn't know about the outside world and did not know about any current religions, would you make up a god to comfort your sense of isolation?

  1. This piece I thought was very interesting. I like how you questioned and made the people or person who is reading this think about it. It left it a little bit in the blue and up to the people to decide what they want to believe. One of things that I would say to work on would be the grammar a couple of times got a little confusing. Another thing is sometimes it felt a little too hard to understand. I think it had really good point and you put really good voice into it. I overall, really like this piece and the fact that it's not finished make me interested on what is going to come up next. Nice Job!!

  2. I'm starting to think that there may not be a sequel. The only direction I found to continue leads off-topic and might become a little insulting. I think I should smooth the edges on this one and call it a day.

  3. This is odd. I liked it but the problem was you got off topic. I can't wait for the ending!

  4. I didnt find this confusing at all. I really like this piece because it is exactly what I have been thinking only I haven't been able to find the right words to make it. I agree with you but there is only one thing that doesn't make sense with the no God theory. Many people have died and then came back and remembered having life while dead. I can't think of a logical answer right now to answer that. It could be like a chemical reaction that the body has, but to have such vivid reactions and reactions that are consistent throughout with people that have had these experiences is unlikely.

  5. If you wanted an ending, I think I got one now. I saw this movie, and it gave me another question to ponder.

  6. Ryan, those people are most likely lying, but if they stick with their story, then I am not sure.

  7. I don't think they're lying, Justin. Ryan's right, people have died and then came back to life for a while and told of what they saw, the lights, heaven's gate, angels, everything.

I really like how you combine your beliefs with intellect though, and make it actually believable because it is backed with evidence. Next time I think you could try putting this same idea into a different format. try an essay or a poem, you might get a totally different product out of it.

  8. Those kind of people confuse me. They focus more on religion than life. I prefer the opposite. Until all my problems are solved in life, I will focus on life more.
